What is Contact Peer Counseling?

Contact is a confidential and nonjudgmental peer counseling service for Harvard undergraduates, with a focus on LGBTQIA+ identities and experiences, gender, sexuality, and relationships. We are a safe space to talk about whatever is on your mind. Come by also for resources, books, and safer sex supplies.

What does peer counseling look like?

We always have two counselors in our office who are available to listen and talk. You can drop in or call whenever we are open and you can stay as long as you’d like. No sign up or registration.

What does “confidential” mean?

When you come to Contact, you don’t have to tell us your name. It’s up to you how much you want to share. Unlike your professors, your PAFs, and your proctors, Contact does not report concerns of sexual harassment and unwanted sexual conduct to the Title IX office.

What does “nonjudgmental” mean?

Contact tries to create a space where anybody feels safe and free to talk about whatever is on their mind. There is no need to explain or justify whatever thoughts or personal identities you bring to our space. We are here to listen.

When is Contact open? Do I need an appointment?

Contact is open every night and no appointment/sign up is needed. You can come in to talk from 8 pm–11 pm in our Thayer Basement office (B-04), or call us at any time during the night from 8 pm–8 am at our confidential phone line: 617-998-6898.

How is the Contact counseling space accessible?

There is an ADA ramp on the side of Thayer that faces Sever Hall.  Inside Thayer, turn right, and there will be an elevator that goes to the basement. Contact's office has two counseling rooms with doors that open out to the hallway: one room has a large couch and the other room has moveable chairs and a larger open space that is accessible for most wheelchair users.  Both counseling rooms have adjustable, warm floor-level lighting.  Feel free to call us during our opening hours (617-998-6898) or email harvardcontact@gmail.com with questions about the accessibility of Contact's space.

I'm interested in joining Contact's counseling staff

Contact holds interviews for Harvard undergraduates interested in becoming peer counselors towards the end of each semester. Please email harvardcontact@gmail.com if you'd like to receive information about the interview process.

I'm a Harvard graduate student. Can I come to Contact for support?

Unfortunately no, Contact only serves current Harvard undergraduates. We'd recommend you reach out Harvard's Counseling and Mental Health Services for support.  You can also check out our collection of resources on campus and in the community at bit.ly/contactresources or on our website.

No concern is too small. Contact is here to listen.
